ADVANCED CARING FOR THE SICK
This course is designed for members of SJAM who have prior Caring for the sick knowledge and skills, to offer refresher and impart advanced Caring for the sick knowledge and skills for providing competent help and care to the sick. This course is also a requirement for SJAM member who intend to become SJAM trainers (Caring for the sick). The course emphasises on skills and knowledge of basic and advanced procedures in caring for the sick. Thos course may be organised only at National, Zonal, State, Regional and Area levels. The National Training Department must sanction this course.
Eligible Candidate?
- Successfully complete Caring for the Sick (Re-certification) or Caring for the Sick(Revalidation)
- Caring for the Sick Certificate shall be valid for at least six months
- Aged 18 years and above
- Must be Member of SJAM with valid SJAM ID Card

How long is a Basic First Aid course?
The course lasts three days (8 hours x 3) and takes place in the classroom and nursing room.
What topics are covered on a Basic First Aid course?
- Definition of Caring for the Sick
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Infection control – hand hygiene, PPE, cleaning, disinfection and Sterilization
- Lifting and Handling of Casualty
- Measuring and Recording Vital Sign
- Nutrition and Meal Preparation
- Bed making techniques
- Personal care – bed bath, oral care, hair care & care of general appearance
- Wound care
- Dressing technique
Assessment
Continuous assessment by the trainer and written exam.
Certificate
Successful candidates receive a certificate issue by St. John Ambulans Malaysia, valid for three years.
